(APRIL 15th – 2015) – Epilepsy Durham Region is excited to launch the first annual Epic Golf Challenge! 18 teams of two will compete against one another in a battle of four 9 hole competitions, completing a total of 36 holes, trying to not only end up with the best round of golf, but also to raise the largest amount of pledged money. The goal is to raise $54,000 to help support the Pediatric Management Program. If each of the 36 golfers raises $1,500, this goal will be a reality! We are Stepping for Life This Year

  • (March 11, 2015) – In a little under two months time CRCS DKI will be participating in the Steps for Life. On May 3rd over 200 participants are expected to gather for a 5 km walk starting at the OPG Information Centre in Pickering. This is the Durham Region event, which takes place simultaneously with all the other 36 Steps for Life across Canada.Courtesy of the Steps for Life website “Steps for Life is a fun 5km fundraising walk to help support families affected by workplace tragedy. Created in 2004, it raises funds to support Threads of Life programs and services for families who’ve suffered from a workplace fatality, life-altering injury or occupational disease. It also raises awareness about the importance of health and safety within workplaces and to the public. It’s a unique way to educate your community about the devastating ripple effects of a workplace tragedy and how we can work together to prevent others from being injured or killed on the job.”In 2012, 2013, and 2014 CRCS DKI had just over 30 water damage restoration staff, friends and family participate – the largest team in each event.“We take the health & safety of our employees very seriously, and we feel privileged to be a Community Leader for this event” explained Team Captain of CRCS, Ryan Douglas. This year we will be introducing a new aspect to our walk for the kids that take part. This year the kids will be encouraged to take part in a scavenger hunt during the walk along the route. “Homer” from Home Depot will be on hand to assist the kids with mini wood race car building as a part of the Home Depot activity zone prior to the walk.

The disaster restoration experts at CRCS DKI would like to encourage your support and sponsor their team, or join the event and be a part of this incredibly important fundraising event.

CRCS DKI Awarded the Jim Copeland Award

crcs award

The Jim Copeland Award is given every year province-wide to a group, business, or individual that has spent a significant amount of time working to prevent fires through educating others, their own safety practices and more. This award is given at the Ontario Municipal Fire Prevention Officers Association’s annual Symposium.

CRCS DKI was nominated by Oshawa Fire Services, and was awarded this great honor because of the hard work spent dedicated to make others aware of the dangers fires present, and how to stop them from occurring.

Being in the business for the past 20 years, CRCS DKI has worked diligently to spread the word on fire prevention. Through thousands of magnets, a fire and smoke damaged kitchen display for the Oshawa Fire Prevention Week for the past ten years, and the distribution of 9,000 booklets titled Alarmed for Life outlining fire safety, we have worked to lower the likelihood of fires across the province.

Cris Douglas, the Founder and President of CRCS DKI was honored to accept the award for his company. He noted how the years in his position has helped him to gain a feeling of civic pride and honor. The hardworking staff that stands behind him helped to make those in the community safer from preventable home fires.

CRCS is proud to have received such a prestigious award, and will continue working to inform members of the community on the proper steps to fire safety. Thank you to the Oshawa Fire Department, whose work has significantly dropped the amount of fires every year, and will continue to do so in the years to come.

Over 1000 Shoes Collected for Charity

(August 24th – 2013) – Just over 5000 runners descended on Albion Hills Conservation Area, near Bolton Ontario this past weekend for a day filled with mud, huge obstacles, and huge water slides. Mud Hero Toronto was the final stop of the 6 obstacle runs that have been held across Canada this summer.

CRCS Disaster Kleenup partnered with the Toronto event to collect muddy shoes from participants willing to donate their shoes. CRCS Disaster Kleenup was able to collect over 1000 shoes, which will be cleaned using state of the art restoration techniques in their Oshawa facility. The shoes will then be donated to Soles4Souls Canada.

“We are always looking at ways we can give back to the community – and this idea was even better as we are able to apply our skills and expertise as a full service restoration company. Normally the damage we see to people’s belongings are a result of fire or floods, yet we can still use similar techniques to remove dirt and grime from the shoes.” Explains Matt Douglas of CRCS Disaster Kleenup.

CRCS plans to release a video capturing the entire initiative this fall.
